Upper Body Strength-the reversibility problem

I managed to actually complete a parkFUN running fitness session at the weekend! It was a lot of fun and it's great to get outside for some training, especially during this dismal winter weather. It's so dark, so much of the time, you need to make the most of every opportunity to get out and get moving.

The class is based around running drills, fast and slow running, a bit of fitness work. All sorts to get the blood pumping and especially get the running muscles working harder and faster than they would when you're just running.

Sometimes there's a bit of a 'mini-circuit' embedded in the class and Saturday was a good one. 5 exercises: battle-ropes, power-hooping, skipping, push-ups and leg raises. Skipping and hooping, no bother. Push-ups and battle-ropes were so tough it was shameful! Where has all the upper body strength gone? Then I realised, I haven't really been training upper body for a while. Once a week is a kettlebell workout in the gym, but that's it. After finishing up the last KB Snatch challenge on October 31st, I have obviously lost a fair bit of daily training and it reminds me of one of the Pillars of Fitness-reversibility. Colloquially known as 'use it or lose it'. Legs are OK, I am getting in a few runs a week and that has got back on track. Running fitness also went out the window as the job situation changed, so that also went into reverse big style.

Anyhow, the day after the class the arms and shoulders were a bit tired, but on the Sunday I managed to knock out a few KB exercises and that should keep me going to the gym workout on Tuesday.

Doesn't take much to keep ticking over and keep the old fitness levels building. Just a wee bit, now and again.

Bring on next week!

Running Fitness class or parkFUN is on Saturday morning at 0930 in Liberton Park.
