What exercises to do today?
How to work out which exercises to put into a routine? Simple-make them big moves which work a lot of muscles all at once. Things you basically know how to do, so you can work without having to constantly think about where you are. And just a few is plenty!
I like to write things up on a white board so i don't have to memorise it or refer to tiny notes on a tiny scrap of paper, which will only get blown about the gym anyway.
Below is a circuit for a class. I make these up fresh every time from a bank of exercises in my brain, with a steady format so people know what to expect. So it's always different, but never too much of a surprise.
Another advantage with keeping a format like this is people get used to it, so the exercises come naturally and if they want to go heavy, or go with a tougher (or easier) option, they know what to do without me having to explain it all, in the middle of the class.
